A message from Calgary Vytautas Didziojo School

Hello all members of our Lithuanian community,

Summer is coming to an end and the new academic year is already knocking on the door. Some of you participated in the Song Festival and visited your relatives in Lithuania, while others went camping, on vacation, or spent time in other ways.

On behalf of Vytautas the Great School in Calgary, I want to ask all parents who plan to send their children to Lithuanian Saturday school this school year.

I would like to know how many and what age children we will have this year. The main goal of the school is to teach children the Lithuanian language, literature and subjects related to the Lithuanian national identity in an attractive way; to introduce them to continuous experience, to introduce them to the origins, history, and culture of Lithuania, and to strive for Lithuanian to be preserved and represented among the Canadian multi-ethnic community.

Some information about the school:

  • Children from the age of 5.5 can attend the school;

  • We meet once a month on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • The school will be held in rented premises at Southwood Community Hall

  • Greta Survile will work with the younger students, Aida Labanauskas with the older ones.

  • There will also be a Lithuanian song and dance lesson with teacher Irina Tamuliene.

  • Annual fee 55 CAD (room rental, per diem, training materials included)

So, I am waiting for the answer of all those who attended and those who did not participate but are planning to attend it, until September 8, 2024.

In order to plan the school year's program, I need to know who will be attending the Lithuanian School next year and the ages of the children.

The Lithuanian Language School is a non-profit body that aims to provide students with a solid foundation in Lithuanian. We interestingly present the materials so that the students are motivated to learn not only the language but also Lithuanian literature and history. It is vital that our children be able to keep their national identity and proudly represent their Lithuanian culture within a multicultural Canadian society.

We accept students between the ages of 5.5-15 years. We meet one Saturday/month 10 AM – 1.00 PM; Cost: $55/year (rent at Southwood Community Hall, textbooks and agendas are included). We are planning to have 2 classes - younger ones with a teacher Greta, and older students with Aida). Students will also attend music class to learn songs and a few dances with the teacher Irina.

If you intend to have your children attend, please notify me by September the 8th, 2024.

Thank you,

Aida Labanauskas

School Principal
