HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS 2024

The Calgary Society of Lithuanian Culture (KLKD) will offer several higher education scholarships to eligible applicants. These scholarships are open to the community at large, not just members of this organization and their families. Scholarships are available for full-time study at any approved higher education institution in Canada or abroad.

For the academic year 2024/25, starting in September 2024, the deadline for applications and supporting materials is September 14, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria:

● Applicants who are school leavers must be Alberta residents who have completed school in Alberta and be enrolled full-time in studies leading to a degree or diploma at an approved higher education institution.

 

● Non-graduate applicants must be Alberta residents and enrolled full-time in studies leading to a degree or diploma at an approved higher education institution.

 

● Each candidate must submit:

  • An application sent by e-mail. It is the candidate's responsibility to provide all required information. Only the information provided by the candidate will be evaluated.

  • An essay on a topic to be published on the KLKD website. No candidate may submit an essay that has been previously submitted. The essay must be 700 words long for school leavers and 1000 words long for other applicants. All essays must be typed, double-spaced, and submitted in PDF and Word formats. Please send separate files for the essay, application, recent transcripts, etc.

  • The candidate's latest school transcript (for school leavers) or the latest grade transcript from an approved higher education institution (for non-school leavers).

  • Evidence that the applicant has been admitted to full-time studies leading to a degree or diploma at an approved higher education institution.

 

An essay you have composed (700 words for school students and 1000 words for students who have already started higher education) on one of the following topics:

  • A Centenary of Harmony: The centenary of the first Lithuanian Song Festival abroad.

  • Lithuanian Language and Literature: Examines the development of the Lithuanian language and literature, focusing on famous authors and their works.

  • The Influence of Lithuanian Athletes on the Olympic Games and National Identity: This essay could explore how the achievements of Lithuanian athletes at the Olympic Games influenced national pride, cultural identity, and the development of sports in Lithuania.

 

Deadlines:

The application and all supporting information must be submitted electronically no later than September 14, 2024. The e-mail should be sent to the KLKD president at: lietuviaikalgaryje@gmail.com. Each applicant will receive notification of application receipt within 48 hours of submission. The President will forward all documents to the evaluation committee.
