Gedulo ir Vilties diena Kalgaryje

Birželio 14 d. visa Lietuva ir pasaulio lietuviai minėjo Gedulo ir Vilties dieną. Šią dieną 1941 m. Sovietų Sąjunga pradėjo masinius gyventojų trėmimus į Sibirą. Dauguma ištremtųjų buvo išvežti į tremtį, į GULAG'o stovyklas. Tarp jų – politikai, politiniai kaliniai, visuomenės veikėjai, tarp jų ir antrasis Lietuvos Respublikos prezidentas Aleksandras Stulginskis. Iš viso į Sibirą buvo ištremta apie 130 tūkst. Lietuvos gyventojų.

Renginys buvo dalis visoje Lietuvoje ir užsienyje vykstančios pilietinės akcijos „Atminties neištremsi“, kurios tikslas – saugoti gyvą istorinę atmintį, pagerbti tremtinių aukas bei skatinti jaunąją kartą nepamiršti tautos istorijos.

Dėkojame visiems susirinkusiems ir prisidėjusiems prie šios reikšmingos dienos paminėjimo. Kartu puoselėjame atmintį, kurios neištremia jokios okupacijos.

Day of Mourning and Hope in Calgary

On June 14, the Day of Mourning and Hope was solemnly commemorated in Calgary to honor the beginning of the mass deportations of Lithuanian citizens to Siberia in 1941. At Hull’s Wood Amphitheater, participants gathered to remember the thousands of innocent people who were exiled and to read aloud the names of those who were deported.

The event was part of the international civic initiative “Memory Cannot Be Exiled,” which takes place across Lithuania and the diaspora. Its aim is to preserve living historical memory, honor the victims of deportations, and encourage younger generations to remember their nation's past.

We extend our sincere thanks to all who attended and contributed to the commemoration of this important day. Together, we keep alive a memory that no occupation can erase.
